The flagship of the Pilot Custom series is the Urushi.  Developed because the Ebonite used for fountain pens at the beginning of the twentieth century would oxidise and turn brown.  Pilot solved this problem by turning to the centuries old Japanese technique of Urushi lacquer.  With the “roiro lacquer finish” applied to the Custom Urushi, the top coating uses lacquer without adding oil, and after polishing with grinding charcoal, the work of further folding in raw lacquer is repeated through a "roiro  finish" polishing method to create a deep gloss.

This is a large pen 15mm at the widest point of the body, and a two tone 18 carat gold nib (in medium, closer to a European fine).

Uses Pilot cartridges or the included Con 70N converter.
